Description
Taught by Rabbi Tracee Rosen
Throughout the ages, folktales have sustained the Jewish people in far-flung lands. The continuation of centuries of oral tradition, these stories have taught communities lessons of belief and behavior in settings both magical and mundane. Indulge yourself in the opportunity to read stories that teach us values, caution us against dangers, and purely entertain.
This will be a survey class that will focus on the roles of women in folktales, highlighting different time periods and locations:
Weeks 1-2 Midrash and Talmud Stories
Weeks 3-5 Medieval stories from around the world
Week 6 Chassidic tales
Week 7 Tales of Chelm
Weeks 8-10 20th century storytellers
